History and Industry

Made in Italy known all over the World

Italian silk production expertise has a long tradition, closely linked to artisanal workshops. The Como manufacturing district in particular has contributed to the success of Italian designers and fashion worldwide, thanks to the quality and imaginative nature of its creations.
Candep's creative capabilities and cutting-edge technical production skills certainly distinguish the Canepa company. Today, the intrinsic value of a quality Italian product is often an expression of another important value in international markets: the Italian lifestyle.
Italian products embody the Italian way of life, its savoir-faire, its aesthetic culture, and its propensity to appreciate what is beautiful and precious, with an authentic heritage.

Producers of textiles and clothing accessories

The Canepa family's history dates back to the 18th century, with the Cattaneo family of Carnago, leaders in a solid tradition of silk farming, spinning, dyeing, and weaving.
In 1930, Marco Canepa acquired Serica Lombarda, a company born from the evolution of the technical and creative skills developed in the Como district since the early 20th century.
The current Canepa was founded in 1966 by Marco's son, Giovanni Canepa, consolidating an entrepreneurial path focused on innovation and textile excellence. Over time, the company has built stable commercial relationships with leading international luxury brands.
In February 2026, the company was acquired by the Achille Pinto group as part of an industrial revitalization project and the valorization of its historical archive. This operation gave birth to Canepa 1966 S.r.l., a new company that preserves the entire archival heritage, has a warping and twisting room, a weaving factory with over 50 looms, and a tricot division.
