"Giardini di seta"
An exhibition in Como combining textiles, gardens and flowers. Until 11 October.
Textiles and plants, silks and gardens, clothes and flowers are the central threads to the exhibition “Giardini di seta”. Organised by the Antonio Ratti Foundation (FAR) and the Municipality of Cernobbio, under the leadership of Margherita Rosina and Francina Chiara, and arranged at the Villa Sucota in Como and the Villa Bernasconi in Cernobbio, it will be open to the public until 11 October. The objective of the exhibition is to explore the relationship between textiles and plants from the 1700s until now through various aspects of floral decoration. The suggested historical route, split into zones with different themes, highlights both the beauty of nature and the creation of textiles in the local area: the silk industry which developed in Como from the end of the 1800s has never moved away from its fascination with its natural setting. It is a good opportunity to discover the beauty of Canepa’s historic textiles, famous for their high quality, which fit perfectly into the long line of local traditions, along with other well-known names from Como’s textile industry. The exhibition will be accompanied by a programme of initiatives such as botanical workshops, conferences, guided visits to historic parks and theatre performances.
