Promoting new talent in the textile sector

The initiative involves Milano Unica, the CFDA and local companies

Milano Unica, companies in the textile sector and the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) are working together to promote new talents. For the second year, this international initiative has been carried out in order to improve communication between the leading Italian companies in the sector and designers associated with the most important fashion institution in the USA. Three designers – Rachel Comey for women’s clothing, Siki Im for menswear and Jonathan Meizler for accessories – were given free rein to use the textiles and accessories presented at the last edition of Milano Unica, the Italian Textiles and Accessories Fair, a benchmark for the sector on an international level. The materials will then be used to create the new collections to be showcased during New York fashion week. Thanks to the collaboration with ICE, the Agency in charge of the internationalisation and promotion of Italian businesses abroad, the three designers got the chance to visit local companies and, in July, Rachel Comey will be in attendance at Milano Unica. The project also involved Canepa whose goal is to continue nurturing and supporting new talent on a global scale with the help of events and institutions in the sector such as Milano Unica and through schools of excellence. On this occasion, Canepa played host to Jonathan Meizler, the designer of the brand “Title of Work”.
