The Playful Spirit of Summer in the New S/S 2017 Collections
Pitti Immagine Uomo 90 (Florence 14-17 June 2016)
Every year, the Canepa brands – Fiorio, LaRana, Gallieni and Tino Cosma – feature among the leading lights of the Pitti Immagine international exhibition with collections constantly reinventing their spirit and style. There are many new changes for Spring/Summer 2017. Fiorio, which is celebrating its 70th birthday, is focusing on printed and jacquard fabrics for single and double-breasted jackets. Other key features are terry cloth polo-shirts and mono-colour t-shirts with pockets bearing prints of swimming costume designs. For younger wearers, vintage items are on offer again in paler colours with medium/large patterns used on both the short and long Bermuda shorts. All of this is showcased in a brand new presentation framework. Once again, LaRana is offering dressing gowns which combine classical tastes with the shape of Japanese kimonos. Unusual materials are used, ranging from Japanese chambray to seersucker, from printed denim to linen Madras. Just as important are the scarves, made of cotton and linen, with some changes to the belts and a few other pleasant surprises, with inspiration taken from the style of the 1980s and the carefree nature of that decade. There are plenty of swimming costumes, made of extremely light nylon, with animal prints or bright and floral patterns. Gallieni is offering new unlined ties (where every tie is unique) made of ultra-light ascot fabric, with a size 10 hand stitched hem. Vintage style has been updated with prints consisting of traditional British colours in both the thread and the patterns. But the most important new arrival is the maritime-themed printed cotton which evokes water and the sea, alternating with floral designs.
In the Tino Cosma collection, the wedding tie is a key feature thanks to the wide range of designs. Also worth noting are the boxer shorts for their close fit and bright colours: the key characteristic being the single shade waistband which is made up of one of the colours in the print, thus creating a unique colour effect. Finally, for the first time, alongside the Fiorio area, an independent Battistoni section will be on show, for whom Canepa is a licensed tie-maker.
