Hyeres Festival 2016
An event focused on sustainability in the textile and fashion industries
For 30 years, the French city of Hyères has hosted stylists, creators, photographers and fashion experts, transforming itself for five days every year into a one-of-a-kind fashion event. And once again, in 2016, the Hyeres International Festival of Fashion and Photography, which took place between 21 and 25 April, saw contributions from ten designers and ten photographers showcasing their creations and exhibiting their works for the first time, with a view to promoting new talent. Against this backdrop, as has been the case for the last two years, meetings and debates were organised around the topic of sustainability. One of the most significant round tables was “International Progress on Sustainable Development” which took place on 23 April and was moderated by Le Monde journalist Julien Neuville, gathering leading figures from the fashion industry including Carlo Capasa, President of the National Chamber for Italian Fashion, Marie-Claire Daveu di Kering (France), Casper Leung from Mixmind Exception, Axelle Tessandier, Businesswoman and Founder of communication and consultancy agency, AXL Agency, Sanchita Ajjampur, Creator of Fabindia and Sanchita, the chain of handmade ethnic clothing stores, and Alfonso Saibene Canepa, Supply Chain and Sustainability director of the Canepa group, acting as the company’s representative.
Since 2008, Canepa has been making significant investment in research and development in order to innovate the industrial process. The patented SAVEtheWATER® process has greatly improved the company’s environmental sustainability, and has gone on to become a brand in its own right to support further industrial patents, thanks to which Canepa has achieved significant savings of water and energy, as well as drastically reducing harmful chemical substances.
